Which 2027 Honda Passport Trim Is Right for You? RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite Compared
Pricing for the 2027 Honda Passport starts at $45,195 for the RT-L, $49,995 for the TrailSport and $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite. Two factory versions sit between them: the RT-L Towing (+$700 for a Class III hitch) and Blackout (+$1,500 on either TrailSport). Every version has the same 280-hp V6, 10-speed automatic, all-wheel drive, 5,000-lb towing rating and full Honda Sensing. What $4,800 more buys on the TrailSport is trail hardware; what another $3,700 buys on the Elite is cabin comfort.
Up and down the Front Range, the Passport question is how far into the mountains you'll take it. The RT-L's all-wheel drive and Snow mode cover winter commutes on the Diagonal. The TrailSport's clearance and all-terrain tires earn their keep on forest roads above Lyons and Ward.

From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout is $10,000. The biggest single jump, $4,100, is RT-L Towing to TrailSport, where the off-road hardware arrives.
Which Passport Trim Has the Feature You Want?
Choose any feature to see the lowest-priced trim that has it and the premium over the RT-L.
Passport Trim vs. Trim
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
$700 buys the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Both are rated for 5,000 lbs, but the rating assumes proper hitch equipment. Towing requires hitch equipment, and the Towing version has it from the factory. If you'll ever pull a trailer to Union Reservoir and Carter Lake or a campground, it's the simpler route.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
Both tow from the factory; $4,100 separates them. The TrailSport brings the off-road kit, a moonroof, a heated wheel and 115-volt power. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, a gray cabin option and 25 highway mpg.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
The $3,700 step is all comfort: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Off-road hardware is identical. If you sit in your Passport through a Boulder County summer, the ventilated seats alone make the case.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
These are $2,200 apart, and they answer different questions: do you want the darker look (Blackout) or the nicer cabin (Elite)?
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
$1,500 buys black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. Everything else is identical.

The Trade-Offs of Moving Up a Trim
Most dealers only tell you what you gain. Here's what you lose.
Moving from RT-L to TrailSport
- Leather. The RT-L's seats are leather-trimmed; the TrailSport's are HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
- A gray cabin. The TrailSport comes in black only; the RT-L offers black or gray.
- Mileage: 21 mpg combined drops to 20, and highway goes from 25 to 22 mpg.
- Headroom: 1.4 in. less up front (39.1 vs. 40.5 in.) and 1.1 in. less in back, with passenger volume falling from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 25.3° on the TrailSport vs. 27.1° on the RT-L, even though approach angle and clearance improve.
- Height: 74.5 in. vs. 73.1 in., which matters with a roof box or a low garage.
- Tire speed rating: T-rated all-terrains (113T) instead of H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Weight: 198 lbs more (4,676 vs. 4,478 lbs).
Moving from TrailSport to Elite
- Orange ambient lighting. The Elite switches to white (it keeps the orange steering-wheel stitching).
- Matte Shark Gray wheels, swapped for Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- 29 lbs of curb weight (4,705 vs. 4,676). Nothing functional is lost.
Adding Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.

Take the Passport Trim Quiz
Five questions, one recommendation, and a link to matching inventory on our lot.
2027 Passport Dimensions by Trim
At 191.5 inches long the Passport fits a standard Boulder County garage or driveway, and the TrailSport's 74.5-inch height still clears a 7-foot garage door. Add a roof box or bike rack and you'll want to measure first.
| Measurement | RT-L / RT-L Towing | TrailSport trims |
|---|---|---|
| Height | 73.1 in. | 74.5 in. |
| Wheelbase | 113.6 in. | 113.8 in. |
| Ground clearance | 8.3 in. | 9.6 in. |

What's New on the 2027 Passport
Higher TrailSport ride height
Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 9.6 in. of ground clearance (8.3 in. on the RT-L) and better approach, breakover and departure angles.
A new TrailSport face
Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.
Elite features move down
The TrailSport now includes TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, both previously reserved for the TrailSport Elite.
Blackout gets darker
The Blackout package adds black front and rear fascias to its black wheels and badges.
Smoke Blue Pearl
A new blue replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl on all trims.
Higher prices
MSRP is up $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.
What to Check on a Longmont Passport Test Drive
A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.
- Ask us to demo TrailWatch and the Multi-View Camera System in the lot. It's most useful nosing into a tight trailhead or a steep driveway.
- Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.
- Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
- Fold the rear seat and load what you really carry. There's 44 cu ft behind the second row.
- If you can, take both trims toward the Peak to Peak Highway. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
- Merge onto the Diagonal Highway or I-25 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.

2027 Passport Trims: Frequently Asked
What are the 2027 Honda Passport trim levels?
The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. There are also two factory versions: the RT-L Towing, which adds a Class III hitch to the RT-L, and a Blackout package for the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite.
How much does the 2027 Honda Passport cost?
MSRP is $45,195 for the RT-L, $45,895 for the RT-L Towing, $49,995 for the TrailSport, $51,495 for the TrailSport Blackout, $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite and $55,195 for the TrailSport Elite Blackout. Add the $1,595 destination charge and $455 for premium paint colors.
What is the difference between the Passport RT-L and TrailSport?
The TrailSport adds off-road hardware: an off-road-tuned suspension with 9.6 in. of ground clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. It also adds a panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L keeps leather-trimmed seats, a gray interior option and better fuel economy. The TrailSport costs $4,800 more.
What does the TrailSport Elite add over the TrailSport?
Perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, a 700-watt 12-speaker Bose system, second-row climate controls, a hands-free power liftgate with walk away close, rain-sensing wipers, rear-door sunshades and acoustic front-door glass. It costs $3,700 more, and the off-road hardware is the same.
What does the RT-L Towing add?
A factory Class III trailer hitch with harness and hitch panel, for $700 over the RT-L. Nothing else changes.
What is the Passport Blackout package?
Offered on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite for $1,500, it adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes. It doesn't change equipment or capability.
Does every 2027 Passport have all-wheel drive?
Yes. i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD is standard, with Trail Torque Logic and seven modes: Normal, ECON, Sport, Snow, Tow, Trail and Sand.
What is the 2027 Passport towing capacity?
5,000 lbs on every trim when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing and both TrailSport trims include a factory Class III hitch. Honda recommends premium fuel when towing more than 3,500 lbs.
Which 2027 Passport trims have leather seats?
The RT-L has leather-trimmed seats with cloth accents, and the TrailSport Elite has perforated leather. The TrailSport uses durable HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth with orange stitching.
How many seats does the 2027 Passport have?
Five, in two rows. The Passport has no third row; the Honda Pilot is the three-row option.
Is the 2027 Passport TrailSport lifted?
It rides higher than the RT-L. Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 2027, giving 9.6 inches of ground clearance versus 8.3 inches on the RT-L.
Which Passport trim should I get for driving around Boulder County?
For paved drives like the Peak to Peak Highway, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For forest roads off the Peak to Peak Highway, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it.
Does the 2027 Passport need premium gas?
No. Regular unleaded is recommended. Honda does recommend premium fuel when towing more than 3,500 lbs. EPA ratings are 19/25/21 mpg (RT-L) and 18/22/20 (TrailSport trims).
What engine is in the 2027 Honda Passport?
Every trim uses a 3.5-liter direct-injected V6 rated at 280 hp and 258 lb-ft, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Does the Passport RT-L have a heated steering wheel?
No. A heated steering wheel is standard on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite, but not the RT-L.
Does the Passport TrailSport have ventilated seats?
No. Ventilated front seats are exclusive to the TrailSport Elite and Elite Blackout, which also add heated rear seats.
Does the 2027 Passport have Google built-in?
Yes, on every trim, along with Alexa Built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger.
Is the 2027 Passport different from the 2026?
Yes, mostly on TrailSport trims: a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance, new front styling with amber hood lights, and TrailWatch plus a heated wheel on the TrailSport. Blackout adds black fascias, and Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl.
What is the 2027 Passport's cargo space?
44 cu ft behind the rear seat on every trim, and up to 104.6 cu ft (RT-L) or 104.4 cu ft (TrailSport trims) with it folded.
